Some testimonials from happy Adventurers
Many years ago i dipped my toes in Scottish waters on board Westbound Adventurer. The highlight of that week was a nocturnal retreat from St.Kilda to escape a forecast gale. The rest of the crew were relieved to reach the shelter of the Sound of Harris but i just wanted to continue. A few years later i did just that as a medic on a clipper round the world challenge yacht. I recently returned to sail with Paul on WBA and discovered that even if you have sailed round the world there is still much to learn. If you are looking for expert tuition whilst sailing on Scotland’s beautiful waters, we can unequivocally recommend Paul.

Since I sailed with the WBA for the first time in 2013, I have been returning every summer for two weeks. The Inner and Outer Hebrides are a jewel and I fell in love with the curious seals, the playing dolphins, the colours of the scenery and the breathtaking night sky!
I travelled on my own and the other crewmembers were without exception affable people with a great sense of humour! Some liked to go for a swim, to catch fish, to explore islands…
Their sailing experiences were of all levels. I recall one woman, who was for the first time on a boat and became quickly a competent crewmember and others who learned for their yachtmaster exam or just wanted to get some tuition. We all benefited from Pauls teaching skills, helped each other and learned in an easy way with lots of laughing and fun.
I can highly recommend Westbound Adventures!

It is always a wonderful experience sailing with you in these spectacular northern Scottisch waters

“I had the pleasure of attending a RYA Day Skipper course in September 2015. The experience was fantastic in all respects. Paul is a very friendly and knowledgeable instructor with a real passion for sailing. The experience of the Western Isles’ beautiful scenery and wildlife is something I will never forget. I strongly recommend this sailing school in all respects”.

We had a week of sailing at its best! Paul made sure we experienced and explored these remote islands, while quietly improving our sailing confidence the whole time. With a different anchorage each lunchtime and evening we really explored these amazing islands through a local’s knowledge – and now we know how to anchor properly too!
Paul, the boat and my fellow students all exceeded my expectations. Paul is a delightfully nimble instructor – a master at observing our learning styles and training needs.

Heavy Weather Sailing 2 Day Course: I would recommend this to all yachtsmen who have not yet been tested in heavy weather. We will wisely decide not to go to sea in heavy weather but if caught out in a blow it is good to have the confidence to cope with it. I was one of 4 people on this course who discovered that close quarter sailing manoeuvres can be carried out under control off a weather shore in F9 winds.

I took the Coastal Skipper practical course with WBA in October 2015. I found Paul to be a knowledgeable and experienced instructor who was a pleasure to sail with. Add some fine crewmates and spectacular scenery and it made for a week I’ll never forget. I’d definitely recommend WBA and in fact I have done.

I’ve been sailing the beautiful Scottish waters for many years but keep returning to Westbound Adventures because for me the yacht is the good size for practising sailing skills in various conditions.
Paul’s teaching style is very structured and relaxed the same time, always focusing on what the sailor needs that moment. His main principle is to give people time to practice and to figure out how things work best for themselves, supporting with some well considered advice.

“ What a great course, by a very knowledgeable and patient guy (even when I crash gybe his boat in 45 knots of wind!) My mate and I were taught by paul on a comp crew course last year, he was such a good teacher I went out and bought a small cruiser and sailed her singlehanded from maryport to scotland that September. And this year have singlehanded singlehanded her to isle of man and will be taking her on from there to Ireland then up to the western isles throughout the summer, in between work (I am a self employed wedding photographer) I will keep going as far north as I can till the weather breaks in sep/oct.
The best teacher for this course, the best location and a great boat to do it on. Just book him.
